How This Is Calculated

For a long position, profit is (exit price − entry price) × quantity. For a short position, it's reversed: (entry price − exit price) × quantity, since you profit when the price falls. Exchange fees are applied to both the opening and closing trade, based on the notional value of each, and subtracted from your gross profit to give a realistic net figure.

Return on position is your net profit divided by your initial position value (entry price × quantity), expressed as a percentage — this lets you compare the efficiency of trades of different sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fee percentage should I use?

Check your exchange's fee schedule — most spot exchanges charge between 0.05% and 0.5% per trade side (maker/taker fees can differ). This calculator applies your entered fee to both the entry and exit trade.

Does this include funding fees for perpetual futures?

No. This calculator covers standard entry/exit trading fees only. Perpetual futures positions also accrue periodic funding payments, which are not included here.

What's the difference between gross and net P/L?

Gross P/L is your profit or loss before any fees are subtracted. Net P/L is what you actually keep (or lose) after exchange fees are deducted — always use net P/L for real decision-making.

How is this different from the Crypto Position Size Calculator?

The Position Size Calculator helps you decide how much to trade before entering, based on your risk tolerance. This tool calculates your actual result after a trade is closed.
